Pathways to P.A.D. ![]()
Phi Alpha Delta serves more than 21,000 members across 300-plus chapters, but internal data revealed a gap the organization couldn’t ignore: over 40% of students who expressed interest in law school were never making the transition, and access to mentorship and structured preparation was especially inconsistent for first-generation and underrepresented students. In response, P.A.D. built Pathways to P.A.D., a six-week, cohort-based program offering structured coaching in law school applications, LSAT strategy, and financial literacy, paired with mentorship from practicing attorneys. The program follows a five-stage developmental arc: Identity, Clarity, Strategy, Narrative, and Resilience. And helps students move from asking “who am I becoming?” to arriving at law school application day with a personalized roadmap and a clear sense of purpose. Participants also gain access to Phi Alpha Delta’s Pre-Law Conference, connecting them with more than 50 law schools. The most recent cohort represented 14 institutions, including HBCUs and other minority-serving institutions. The results have been striking: law school admission rates among participants rose by 10%, and the share of students transitioning into law chapters climbed from 40% to 75%, with over 95% of participants initiating into Phi Alpha Delta chapters. By the end of the program, every participant reported greater clarity in their path, and 89% said they had improved their ability to manage self-doubt and navigate financial planning for law school. What makes Pathways to P.A.D. stand out is how directly it ties member development to organizational growth. The most recent cohort was 63% students of color and 63% first-generation students, drawn from 14 institutions including HBCUs and other minority-serving schools — exactly the population the program was designed to reach. Rather than waiting for students to find their way to a law chapter on their own, Phi Alpha Delta built a structured on-ramp that meets them years earlier, when the right support can make the biggest difference. Pathways to P.A.D. represents exactly the kind of proactive, evidence-driven programming the IMPACT Award was created to recognize. PFA is proud to recognize Phi Alpha Delta’s Pathways to P.A.D. as our 2026 IMPACT Award Winner! |
