Career Achievement Award

Johnny W. Porter has devoted more than five decades to the pharmacy profession, fraternal leadership, and community service, leaving a legacy defined by excellence, mentorship, and visionary leadership.

Initiated in 1971 at the Delta Beta Chapter of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity, Brother Porter quickly became a cornerstone of the organization. His national leadership began in 1978 as Graduate Member-at-Large, followed by service in every major elected office, culminating in his term as Grand Regent (1991–1993). He continued to shape the Fraternity as Editor of The Mask for 15 years and as Executive Director (2008–2022), where he modernized operations, strengthened financial health, and launched impactful programs like the Leadership Symposium, which empowered collegiate chapters nationwide.

Johnny’s influence extended beyond Kappa Psi. He served as President, Vice President, and Treasurer of the Professional Fraternity Association (PFA) and was honored with the Marilyn Simpson Ford Award by the Fraternity Communications Association for his outstanding service. He also contributed to the Kappa Psi Foundation as a board member and secretary, and as a generous donor supporting its philanthropic mission.

In his professional career, Johnny earned a B.S. in Pharmacy from Southwestern Oklahoma State University (1974) and worked as a pharmacist and manager for Revco, Eckerd Drug, and CVS until 2016. He was twice elected President of the Dallas County Pharmacist Association, recognized for his leadership and dedication to advancing pharmacy practice. His commitment to education was evident in his role as a student preceptor at multiple pharmacy schools, mentoring future generations of pharmacists.

Johnny also served as CEO of Turtle Creek Manor, a nonprofit focused on mental health and substance abuse recovery, demonstrating his deep commitment to community health and service.

His legacy is not only measured by the titles he held but by the lives he touched, the programs he built, and the values he championed. Johnny W. Porter embodies the spirit of Kappa Psi — industry, sobriety, fellowship, and high ideals — and continues to inspire generations through his unwavering dedication and leadership.
