Career Achievement Award

Adrianne Steichen has spent more than two decades proving that a career in architecture and a lifelong commitment to Phi Sigma Pi are not separate pursuits, but two expressions of the same values. She joined the Fraternity at Tulane University in 1998, and in the years since, she has never really left. She has served on the National Chapter Development Committee, founded the Bay Area Alumni Association in 2002, and sat on the Phi Sigma Pi Foundation’s Board of Directors from 2006 to 2009.

Professionally, Adrianne is a Principal at PYATOK architecture + urban design, where her work has centered on affordable housing, walkable urbanism, and sustainable development; the kind of design that puts community well-being ahead of everything else. She has led as President of AIA San Francisco and chaired the AIA Housing and Community Development Knowledge Community, and her leadership has been recognized nationally, including as AIA’s Young Architect of the Year and, most recently, as the inaugural recipient of the Marsha Maytum, FAIA, Citizen Architect Award.

Adrianne holds a Master of Architecture from Tulane University School of Architecture and Built Environment, where her studies first introduced her to Phi Sigma Pi. She went on to build a career defined by service to her profession as much as to her firm as she sat on the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, chairing AIA San Francisco’s Bay Area Young Architects, and serving as a visiting team representative for the National Architectural Accrediting Board. She has also judged numerous design award competitions, lending her expertise to help recognize the next generation of architects.

Colleagues and fellow Phi Sigma Pis alike describe her as someone who integrates knowledge and leadership to create real societal impact, whether she is reviewing affordable housing plans or mentoring a young alumna finding her own path in the profession. In 2024, Phi Sigma Pi honored her with its own Excellence in Leadership Award, recognizing a career that has long modeled what the Fraternity hopes every member will become.

Adrianne’s career is a living example of Phi Sigma Pi’s Tripod of Scholarship, Leadership, and Fellowship, carried from a chapter meeting at Tulane into a career spent building better, more inclusive communities.
